The Chess Camp took place in the summer holidays 2018 (23 & 24 July).
I attended both days. At the beginning of the day, we were given some coaching which lasted about 40 minutes. Over the 2 days, we learnt about pins, how to win an opening and the French defence.
After the coaching, we split into teams to play our games. Our first game was timed for 45 minutes per player. We were then given a break and resumed with a second game of 30 minutes per player. It was then time for lunch. After lunch, we had more coaching followed by a game of 15 minutes per person.
The Chess Camp was fun because we did not just play chess – we had 2 sets of coaching per day.
I liked the coaching because it improved my chess tactics. I also liked having a timer because it gave me a different experience. I want to improve on playing with a timer so that I will be more confident.
It was an enjoyable camp which helped improve my game quickly. Thank you to the coaches at the camp: Robin, Richard, Lateefah, Ben and Sarah (sorry, if I missed any coaches out).
